Caesarean

Some women choose to have a caesarean some women have no choice in the matter and have to have one based on medical need.

There is currently a great deal of emphasis on the benefits of natural deliveries and while every women should be given the best possible opportunity to have a natural delivery some of the time it is necessary to intervene. We are fortunate that medical advancement gives us the choice to provide the option of a caesarean in a safe medical environment.

Media hype around caesareans and the trend towards natural delivery and home births is well founded as it is medically lower risk for both mother and baby. However, this can engender feelings of failure in some women who feel that by not having a natural birth they have failed to give their baby the best start in life.

If you are expecting to have a caesarean it is important to look at the wider achievement of nurturing your baby right from conception through to birth. The birth itself is just a small part of the process, a mother will have carried, protected and nurtured their baby in the womb during pregnancy, and should experience birth as a rewarding experience, recognising that it is just a little different. Every mother irrespective of their style of delivery should feel a sense of achievement and elation when they first hold their baby in their arms.

Hypnosis can help the mother reflect on the whole process of pregnancy and reinforce feelings of achievement and joy, focusing on the success of pregnancy and the reward of at last meeting your baby. Sessions cost £45 an hour. The first session is 1 ½ hours with the first ½ hour free.
